• What are some good works that you can do that will allow your light to shine?

The physical creation is filled with examples of fruit-bearing. For instance, apple trees produce apples, tomato plants yield tomatoes, etc. God has designed His creation to yield physical fruit.

In the spiritual realm, God desires for us to produce spiritual fruit. God seeks to produce spiritual fruit in and through our lives.

Psalm 1:2-3

2  But his ____________ is in the _____ of the LORD;; and in his law doth he _____________ day and night.

3  And he shall be like a _____ planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his _______ in his season;; his leaf also shall not wither;; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The work of the Holy Spirit as He dwells in us is evidenced by certain fruit.

Galatians 5:22-23

22  But the __________ of the Spirit is ________, ______, _________, ___________________, _______________, _________________, ____________,

23  ________________, ________________: against such there is no law.

It is helpful to know that the fruit of the Spirit is only seen when our spiritual lives are what God intends.

Galatians 5:16

16 This I say then, _________ in the Spirit, and ye shall not ____________ the lusts of the __________.

  • Application:
Realize that your own personal testimony is a wonderful tool to help you tell others about Jesus.

As you read you Bible daily be sure to have an open notebook with you to write down the verses that speak to you and the lessons God has for you. As well, write down any comments or questions you may have. God wants you to be a student of His Word, 2 Timothy 2:15.

Follow these four simple steps to properly understand the Bible:

1. Find who is giving the message

2. Find who is receiving the message

3. Find what the message is

4. Find how the message applies to you!

  • How are you to know that salvation is eternal?
  • In what areas do you need to be faithful?
  • Why does the Spirit of God make us sensitive to sin?

A basic principle that separates true Biblical Christianity from other religions is faith in God to preserve the soul of the born-again believer eternally. This lesson will reveal the importance of simply believing God’s Word exactly as it is written regarding eternal life. Because we have trusted Christ as our personal Saviour, God wants us to know that we are saved now and forever.

1John 5:13

13 These things have I _____________ unto you that _____________ on the name of the Son of God;; that ye may __________ that ye have _________ ______, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

John 5:24

4 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that ____________ my ______, and _____________ on him that sent me, hath _________________ ______ and shall not come into condemnation;; but ___ passed from ________ unto _______.

The security of salvation stands firmly on the promises of God!

2 Corinthians 1:20

20 For all the promises of God in him are ______, and in him _______, unto the glory of God by us.

Titus 1:2

2  In hope of _____________ _________, which God that cannot _____, promised before the world began;

The written Word of God provides the security of our salvation. We have the promise that God cannot lie. Since His promises are yea, we can know that He will not go back on His Word!

Before beginning this lesson, let us take the time to study the following verses:

*  Read John 1:12, 13: Eternal security is seen in the new birth, for upon receiving Christ one is ________ of God.

*  Read John3:16: Eternal security is revealed as a person’s having everlasting life with the promise that he should not ______.

*  Read John 10:27-30: Eternal security rests in the promise of Christ, for He gives ___________ _______ and declares, “...and they shall _______ perish.”

*  Read Romans 8:1: Eternal security is certain, for we are in Christ, and there is no _________________.

Many Christians base their security and assurance of salvation on the wrong foundation!

1. Emotional Feelings

Some Christians base the security of their salvation on their feelings. The problem with feelings is that they come from our flesh, and are given to change. One day you feel saved;; the next day, you don’t! Circumstances come into your life, perhaps you sin -- you sure do not “feel” saved, so you begin to doubt the security of your salvation. Our sinful flesh and the feelings it produces are not to be trusted.

Romans 7:18

18  For I know that in me (that is, in my _______,) dwelleth
no _________ thing: for to will is present with me;; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Mark 14:38

38  Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into ___________________. The spirit truly is ready, but the ___________ is ________.

2. Ignorant Bliss

Other believers never learn more of the Bible after salvation, and along comes Satan in a good position to make them doubt God’s Word concerning their eternal security. Such ignorance is not bliss, because the new believer does not grow in grace and in the knowledge of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The resultant lack of grow causes weak faith which is often revealed during times of trial and testing.

2Peter 3:17-18

17  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye _________ these things before, ________ lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, _______ from your own stedfastness.

18  But _________ in grace, and in the _______________ of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Ignorance of God’s Word leads to instability, causing further doubt and fear.

James 1:6-8

6  But let him ask in faith, nothing ________________. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and ___________.

7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8  A ___________ minded man is _______________ in all his ways.

By basing eternal security on feelings, and being ignorant of God’s Word, it is possible for believers to experience doubt regarding salvation. If doubt occurs, remember Satan is a liar and a deceiver.

John 8:44

44 Ye are of your father the ________, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is ____ ________ in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a _______, and the _________ of it.

Satan, from the beginning of Creation, has lied about the Bible. He begins by simply casting doubt upon the Word of God, and then he lies about what God has said.

Genesis 2:6-8

6  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so _______ ye in him:

7  _____________ and _________ up in him, and _______________ in the __________, as ye have been _________, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8  ___________ lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the ________________ of men, after the rudiments of the ________ and not after Christ.

God’s simple plan for us centres on the teaching of the Word of God. As we are taught the Bible, a proper root system will be developed. Once our roots are set, we will be built up and stablished in the faith. Such a foundation provides abundant thanksgiving!

  • How can we model our love after the love of Christ?
  • What is the real danger of basing faith on feelings?

There is much that God wants to do for us, in us, and through us. Believers who are assured of their salvation are useful for the Saviour’s service.

Colossians 1:9-12

 9  For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his ______ in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10  That ye might _______ _________ of the Lord unto all pleasing, being ____________ in every good _______, and __________________ in the knowledge of God;

11  ___________________ with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all ____________ and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us * _____ to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Here is a practical list of what God expects of us as His children. This list is not extensive nor exhaustive, but it includes foundational elements that should be evident in the life of a believer.

1. Our salvation is based on what God said

2 Timothy 3:14-15

14  But ______________ thou in the things which thou hast _____________ and hast been ______________ of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15  And that from a _______ thou hast known the holy _____________ which are able to make thee wise unto ______________ through _______ which is in Christ Jesus.

God’s Word provided the truth for our salvation. Our responsibility is to continue in that truth.

2. Our new life is to be based on what God said

2 Timothy 3:16

16 _____ scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is ________________ for _____________, for _____________, for __________________, for ____________________ in righteousness:

In a later lesson we will study the importance of the Word of God. This one verse reveals to us the how we received our Bible -- by inspiration of God. This verse also introduces us to why we have the Bible:

doctrine -      teaching what is right for our lives

reproof -        teaching what is wrong in our lives

correction -    teaching how we are to get right

instruction -    teaching how we are to remain right

3. Our service for Christ is to be based on what God said

2 Timothy 3:17

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto ___ _____ ________.

Our salvation, our new life in Christ, and our service for Christ must be based on the Word of God. It is certain that the Bible provides the only solid foundation upon which we must build our lives. This building project takes a lifetime! Our continuing in the Word of God should never cease.

  • If you could put a percentage on your faith, how sure are you that you are on you way to heaven?
  • The Holy Spirit, however, brings conviction when you sin. He will impress upon you the specific sin that was just committed. He will then bring to mind the verses from 1 John 1, seeking to restore your fellowship with God!

The Holy Spirit works from the inside out -- this is the joy of having a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. As the inward fruit is evidenced, the outward fruit will also be displayed.

1. Obedience to God

1 John 2:3

3  And hereby we do ________ that we _______ him, if we ________ his ___________________.

Matthew 28:20

20 _______________ them to ______________ all things whatsoever I have __________________ you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 14:15,23

15 If ye _______ me, ________ my ____________________.

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man _______ me, he ______ keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

John 15:10

10 If ye _______ my __________________, ye shall abide in my love;; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

Jesus Christ provides the greatest example in all that we are to do as children of God! His obedience to the commands of His Father led to His death on the Cross. It is this obedience that God expects of those who love Him. Certain steps of obedience are seen throughout the Word: daily Bible reading, baptism, faithful church attendance, etc.

The desire to obey the commands of Christ, and the action of obedience are great assurances that we are saved.

2. Separation from sin

As believers, we are not of this world;; therefore, we are to love the things that God loves. As we obey the commands of God, the love for the things of the world will fade away.

1 John 2:15-16

15  Love ____ the _________, neither the ________ that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the ___________ is not in him.

16  For all that is in the world, the ______ of the ________, and the ______ of the ______, and the ________ of _____, is not of the Father, but is of the _________.

Though we live in the world, the world should not live in us. Separation from sin is only accomplished by following the Spirit’s leading, and enjoying the presence and protection of God.

Galatians 5:16

16 This I say then, _______ in the _________, and ye shall ____ fulfil the _______ of the _________.

John 17:14-16

14  I have given them thy _______; and the world hath hated them, because they are _____ of the ________, even as I am not of the world.

15  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest ______ them from the _______.

16  They are ____ of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Separation from the world’s sinful practices is a proper by-product of being born again.

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 Therefore if any man be ___ _________, he is a ______ creature: _____ things ____ ____________ away;; behold, all things ____ become _____.

3. Love for other believers

Loving fellow believers comes naturally to those who are saved. It is a work of the Spirit within that produces our love for one another.

John 13:34-35

34  A new _____________________ I give unto you, That ye _______ one another;; as __ have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35  By this shall all men know that ye are my ______________, if ye have _______ one to another.

1John 3:14

14 We know that we have ______________ from ________ unto ______, because we _______ the _____________. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

4. Desire to see others saved

As we continue in the Word of God, we will desire to bring our family and friends to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Obedience to God, separation from sin, and love for believers will give us many opportunities to talk to people about our relationship with Jesus Christ.

John 1:40-42a

40  One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him was ________, Simon Peter’s ______________.

41  He _______ findeth his _____ brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the _________.

42a And he ___________ him to _________...

The fruit that God produces in our lives is for His glory. God works in us for our benefit, and for His praise.

John 15:8

8  Herein is my Father _____________, that ye bear much ________; so shall ye be my ___________.

Ask yourself these questions:

Am I bearing fruit on the inside? Do I recognize the presence of God in me? Do I bear the outward fruit? Are other believers able to see God through me?

Make a list of family and friends that you could tell about Jesus

  • When did God give you the Holy Spirit?
  • * Old Testament quote from Isaiah 64:4
  • Immutable means unable to change
  • * Meet means to equip one with adequate power to perform the expected duties
  • Explanation:
Sin opens the door for Satan to cause doubt. He brings about the sense of guilt -- nothing specific, but an overwhelming feeling of helplessness and even hopelessness.

God requires faithfulness! This is where commitment comes into our personal relationship with our Father.

Acts 2:41-47

41  They that gladly received his word were ______________: and the same day there were __________ unto them about three thousand souls.

42  And they _______________ stedfastly in the apostles’ ___________, and in breaking of bread, and in ____________.

43  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44  And all that believed were _____________, and had all things common;

45  And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had _______.

46  And they, continuing ________ with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47  ______________ God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord _________ to the church daily such as should be _________.

The preceding verses give us several responsibilities in which the Lord wants us to be faithful:

     public profession through baptism
church membership and attendance to grow in the Word of God

to be in fellowship with believers
     praying with believers
     meeting the needs of believers
affecting our community with the gospel message

It is true that faithfulness does not just happen, it must be practiced! God has given us our local church in which He wants us to grow in our personal relationship with Him.

God has designed the Christian life to be one of constant motion. We are to walk after Him as He leads us according to His Word.

As He gives us good doctrine, God will seek to reveal where we are wrong. He then will correct us in order for us to be on His path. His instruction is given so that we can maintain the walk that is pleasing to Him.

A believer who is constantly in the Bible will grow in confidence and will not be ashamed of Jesus Christ. As we follow Him, God will bring people along our path that He wants us to bring to Jesus.

Often times, our own personal testimony and lifestyle will be used to bring people to Jesus. Our unsaved family and friends will see our faithfulness, allowing us to witness to them.

  • John 9 gives us a great illustration of a young man pointing others to Jesus immediately upon his salvation.

As we continue daily in the Word of God, both by reading it and also by obeying it, God will give us opportunities to talk about our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Believers who are certain of their salvation will show forth their new life in Christ through their service for Christ. As believers, we are the light of the world. We may be the only light that our family and friends will ever see;; therefore, we must not be ashamed to be God’s child.

Matthew 5:14-16

14  Ye are the __________ of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be _______.

15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a _________________; and it ___________ ________ unto all that are in the house.

16  _____ your light so __________ before men, that they may see your good _________, and glorify your ___________ which is in heaven.

The temptation to hide our light among our family and friends can be great. The danger is that we may fear their reaction, and even their rejection. We need to be encouraged that God will strengthen us to do His will. As well, we need to realize that God will give us the answers to any questions that are asked about our faith.

Romans 1:15-16

15  So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the _________ to you that are at Rome also.

16  For I am _____ _____________ of the gospel of ________: for it is the _________ of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

2 Timothy 1:8,12

8 Be _____ thou therefore _____________ of the _____________ of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou _____________ of the afflictions of the __________ according to the power of God;;

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheles I am _____ ______________: for I _______ _______ I have believed, and am ______________ that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

1. The promises of God according to His Word

John 3:16

16 For God so ___________ the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that _______________ believeth in him should _____ __________, but have __________________ ________.

John 5:24

24 ___________, ____________, I say unto you, He that heareth ___ _____, and believeth on him that sent me, hath _______________ life, and shall not come into _______________; but is passed from death unto life.

John 6:37

All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me;; and him that cometh to ___ I will in ___ ______ cast out.

John 10:28-30

28  And I ________ unto them ____________ life; and they shall _________ __________, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater that all;; and no man is able to _________ them out of my Father’s hand.

30  I and my Father are one.

Romans 8:35-39

35  Who shall separate us from the ______ of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37  Nay, in all things we are more than ________________ through him that loved us.

38  For I am ________________, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to __________ us from the _______ of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:13

13  For ___________________ shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be ____________.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21  For he hath made him to be ______ for ____, who knew no sin;; that we might be made the _________________ of God in him.

Ephesians 1:7

7  In whom we have ________________ through his blood, the ________________ of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

1 Peter 1:5

5  Who are _______ by the ____________ of God through ________ unto ________________ ready to be revealed in the last time.

As we study these verses, remember that it is impossible for God to lie. The fact that God cannot lie makes His promises certain.

Hebrews 6:18-19

18  That by two immutable things, in which it was __________________ for God to lie, we might have a ___________ consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the _______ set before us:

19  Which hope we have as an __________ of the soul, both ______ and ___________, and which entereth into that within the veil;

2. The presence of God through the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 1:12-14

12  That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first _________ in Christ.

13  In whom ye also ___________, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye ______________, ye were sealed with that ______ __________ of promise,

14  Which is the ____________ of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

An interesting word is used in Ephesians 1:14 -- earnest. This deals with that which “seals the deal.” For instance, if you were to buy a new house a down payment must be given. This down payment, by law, guarantees that the house belongs to you. The down payment is the earnest of the overall purchase price.

In the same way, upon our salvation, God gives to us the Holy Spirit, who seals the matter of our personal salvation. The Holy Spirit’s presence confirms that we belong to God.

1 Corinthians 2:12

12 Now we have ________________, not the spirit of the world, but the __________ which is of _____; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

21  Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is ______.

22  Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the ________ in our hearts.

Romans 8:9-10

9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God ___________ ____ you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10  And if Christ be ____ you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is _______ because of ____________________.

John 14:23

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man _______ me, he will ______ my ________: and my Father will love him, and we will _______ unto him, and make our __________ ________ him.

The Holy Spirit gives us certain assurances regarding our eternal security. Study the following Bible passages to determine several aspects of the Spirit’s ministry in our lives.

*  Read John 16:7     The Spirit is our __________________.

*  Read John 16:8     The Spirit __________ us of our sin. This simply means that the Holy Spirit reveals the presence of sin, and then convicts us of a specific sin.

*  Read John 14:26:     The Spirit shall _______ you all things Notice that the Spirit’s teaching is based on what Jesus Himself taught. The teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit is further explained in 1 Corinthians 2:12-13.

*  Read Romans 8:15:     Upon our salvation, we received the Spirit of God and a wonderful relationship with the Creator God began. Because of the Spirit within, we are able to call God our _________.

*  Read Romans 8:16:     The presence of the Holy Spirit provides a great assurance that we are the _______________ of God.

Fact, faith, and feelings -- this is the proper order regarding spiritual life. The Word of God provides the facts which God intends for us to believe. Our faith is to be placed in the Word of God -- remember, the object of our faith is of utmost importance. Our feelings are to be placed in their right position -- at the end. If God happens to give us “good” feelings about what we believe, that is excellent. However, a word of caution -- the Word of God must be believed regardless of how we feel about it!

God has given us a firm foundation -- His promises. Upon our salvation, He then gave us His personal presence -- the Holy Spirit. God then uses the Holy Spirit to teach us His Word. Through the ministry of the Spirit and the power of the Word of God, an immovable foundation for eternal security is realized.

To practice daily Bible reading is essential. God desires for us to grow, to mature, as we walk with Him. As we spend time reading the Bible, our faith will be strengthened.

The Spirit of God wants first to work in us, that He might work through us. We cannot be fruitful outwardly until the Spirit has produced fruit within us. This inward fruit deals with that which is unseen to other believers, but is known to you and God.

1. Faith in the person of Jesus Christ

Galatians 2:20

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;; yet not I, but Christ ___________ in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live ____ the _________ of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself
for me.

As has been studied in the previous lesson, salvation is by faith alone. The relationship a believer enjoys with God is based on faith.  This relationship starts as one believes in his heart, see Romans 10:8-17. As we continue to read the Bible daily, our faith will grow.

As our faith develops, a confidence will be seen. Not a confidence in self, but rather a sound conviction of truth concerning God.  This confidence assures our heart that God's Word is Truth.

1 John 3:19-21

19  And hereby we ________ that we are of the _________, and shall ____________ our hearts before him.

20  For if our heart condemn us, God is ______________ than our heart, and _______________ all things.

21  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we _________________ toward God.

Growing and strengthening faith in the person of Jesus Christ is the first fruit of eternal security.

2. Sensitivity to sin

Upon our salvation, we were justified as we received the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. However, sin is still present in our life and it can be powerful if we do not submit to the will of God. If we seek to walk in the Spirit we will be conscious of the presence of sin. If we determine to turn away from sin, we will be sanctified. One day all believers will be saved from the presence of sin. It is not until Jesus comes to receive us to Him (John 14:1-3), or when we are absent from the body and present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8), that we will be saved from the presence of sin. The following section should help us to understand more fully the grace of God seen in salvation.

a. Justification - saved from the penalty of sin

Romans 5:1

1  Therefore being ______________ by _________, we have ________ with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

b. Sanctification - saved from the power of sin

2 Timothy 2:21-22

1  If a man therefore ________ himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, ________________, and meet for the master’s use, and _______________ unto every ________ work.

22  Flee also youthful lusts: but follow __________________, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

c. Glorification - saved from the presence of sin

1 John 3:2

2  Beloved, ______ are we the ______ of God, and it doth not yet appear what we _________ be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be _______ him;; for we shall see him as he is.

If we understand our justification and delight in the Word of God, we will enjoy the ministry of sanctification. Sanctification will take place as the Holy Spirit makes us sensitive to sin.

1 John 1:7-10

7  But if we ________ in the _________, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son _______________ us from all ______.

8  If we say that we have no sin, we _____________ ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9  If we _______________ our sins, he is _______________ and just to _______________ us our sins, and to _____________ us from all ______________________.

10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a _______, and his word is not in us.

The Holy Spirit will reveal specific sin by means of conviction. Once the sin is known, it must be confessed. As we confess our sin, the Father grants immediate forgiveness and cleansing. As soon as we are convicted about a specific sin, confess it -- it is best to keep a short account with God!

Within these verses from 1 John, a note of warning is understood: fellowship with the Father is only enjoyed when we walk in the light. If the Spirit of God reveals sin and we do not confess it, our fellowship with God suffers greatly, for in God there is no darkness!

Being sensitive to sin is the second fruit that is produced in the life of the believer.

3. Leading of the Spirit

Romans 8:14

14 For as many as are ______ by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

John 15:26

26 But when the _______________ is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the ________ of ________, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of _____:

One of the greatest assurances that the Father is able to give us is an understanding of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will lead us according to what God has already said in the Bible. God has given us His Spirit so that we can know His Word. As we begin to know more of the Bible, we will experience the leading of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:9-12

9  But as it is * _______________, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath ________ for them that love him.

10  But God hath _____________ them unto us by his __________: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11  For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God _____________ no man, but the Spirit of God.

12  Now we have _______________, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is ___ God; that we might ___________ the things that are _________ given to us of God.

John 14:26

6 But the Comforter, which is the ______ _________, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall ________ you all things, and bring all things to your ________________, whatsoever __ have ______ unto you.

Believers need to make certain that decisions made are according to the Word of God, for the Spirit seeks to lead in the path that God desires. God’s will becomes evident as the Spirit teaches and instructs according to God’s Word.

This third fruit produced within you by the Spirit of God provides further assurance that we are God’s children.

4. Spiritual victory over sin and the world

1 John 5:4-5

4  For whatsoever is _______ of _____ ________________ the world: and this is the _____________ that overcometh the world, even our ________.

5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that ________________ that Jesus is the Son of God?

As we read the context of 1 John 5, we will see the importance of keeping the commandments of God. Such obedience is founded on love, which will be studied in the next section.

Victory over sin will be realized only as we yield to the Spirit of God.

Romans 6:11-13

11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be _______ indeed unto ____, but ________ unto God through Jesus Christ our _______.

12  Let not sin therefore ________ in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the ________ thereof.

13 Neither _________ ye your members as intruments of ________________ unto sin: but ________ yourselves unto God, as those that are _________ from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto ________.

It is true that on occasion believers stumble and struggle with sin;; but believers are to yield to the Spirit who brings victory. The foundation of spiritual victory is the believer is dead to sin -- because of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The day we trusted Christ as our Saviour was the day we became dead to sin. This facts needs to be reckoned -- remembered that it has been put to our account! Spiritual victory over sin is the by-product of yielding to the Spirit of God.

The continual practice of sin is overcome in the life of the believer who has growing faith in the person of Jesus Christ, who is sensitive to sin, and who is led by the Spirit of God. This inward fruit produces great assurance!
